Every registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a particular hosting provider. In this way, you've got both your website and your emails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are lots of other records, for example A and MX. The former shows which server deals with the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you type a domain address in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of a different company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the website and the e-mails means you may have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you'd like.
Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting
If you have a shared website hosting plan through our company, you are going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Assuming that a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify certain records via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails directed to any other provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool is going to enable you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain the slightest bit. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with only a few clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domain names or subdomains is incredibly easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you may click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any problems if you wish to switch your site or emails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you may also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
