Every device that is connected to the web has a unique identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computer systems, web servers, smartphones, switches, and so on. The pool of addresses, which was introduced initially, has been distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are progressively being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens an internet site comes with an IP record, that is the address of the server where it is hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of four groups of numbers from 1 to 255 divided with a dot, while with the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is comprised of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format works with a substantially greater amount of IPs than the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Shared Website Hosting
If you'd like to create a new AAAA record for any domain name or subdomain hosted in your shared website hosting account, it will not take you more than several easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is quite intuitive to use and it will allow you to create or edit any record without difficulty. When you sign in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all current records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you'll simply have to click on the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down options menu inside the pop-up that'll appear, type or paste the needed IPv6 address and save the change - it is as easy as that. The new record will be 100% functioning within a maximum of an hour and the hostname that you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you'll also be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds which the new record will be working after you eventually change it to something different or you simply delete it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Creating a new AAAA record is incredibly easy using our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain name within a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you want such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you've set up under it, you'll be able to create it within a few very simple steps and with no hassle. Hepsia includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses where you can find all current records or set up new ones with a few mouse clicks. All it takes to do this is to choose the domain/subdomain you want to edit, choose AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and input the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other provider has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the new record is going to propagate globally and your domain address will start pointing to the third-party hosting server. If they need it, you could also edit the TTL value, which reveals the time this record will be active with its current value before a new one kicks in if you make any modifications in the future.
